American Draperies & Blinds, Inc. is committed to environmentally friendly, safe, nontoxic materials. We exemplify this commitment both in our products and company practices.
Plant a Tree Program
We Buy American and hope you too will support American workers by buying directly from our factory.
When you purchase an eco-friendly product from our company, we voluntarily plant a redwood tree on your behalf through the National Arbor Day Foundation. These trees are replanted in our Nations Forests that were damaged by fire, insects, and disease. Each customer receives a complementary card from the Arbor Day Foundation announcing that a tree was planted in your name.
Thus far, we have planted over 210 redwood trees; an entire forest!
Recycling Program
American Draperies & Blinds, Inc. is equally dedicated to our company wide recycling program. It starts in the office with sorting all recyclable paper material; our shipping department uses many second generation packing materials; and in production/manufacturing, we proudly recycle over 90% of our waste materials and off cuts, including aluminum and PVC.
American Draperies & Blinds, Inc. is committed to recycling all the cardboard and paper waste that a factory normally encounters. We recycled our own product manufacturing waste materials of aluminum and steel for decades. Our recycling program has been continuing for over 30 years! Even the fill used for packaging is made from recycled paper. We also aggressively recycle: 1) cardboard; 2) paper; 3) wood pallets; 4) water; and 5) plastics. We are pursuing recycling all fabric surplus and waste when making draperies.
Energy Efficient Lighting
We converted all of our office and production/warehouse areas to more efficient lighting throughout out facilities over 10 years ago. We also installed skylights in our buildings during the 1970's to provide natural lighting.
Compacting
Many years ago, we leased industrial compacting machines to reduce waste disposal frequency and mass.
Water Conservation
This includes restrictors/reducers in all plumbing, drought tolerant landscaping along with minimal plant irrigation needed, use of recycled water in production.
Organic and Recycled Consumer Products
We have manufactured horizontal mini-blinds using recycled aluminum for nearly 30 years. We offer organic and natural fabrics (bamboo, hemp, etc.) used in our drapes for over 5 years.
Renewable Energy
Currently, we use recycled water for manufacturing and cleaning. Our future plans include rain water catches for irrigation, wind turbines on the rooftop of our facilities to provide power for lighting and production machinery, etc.
Eco-friendly Product Line
Many of our products are eco-friendly either by the natural fibers utilized in the window coverings or based on the increased energy efficiency provided through our products' extraordinary insulation. Our commercial and rental unit drapes, roller shades, and other insulated drapes especially increase energy efficiency.
There are no VOC or outgassing issues whatsoever with all of our horizontal mini-blinds; drape fabrics such as 100% organic cotton, bamboo, hemp, etc. They are coated without formaldehyde and are CRC and PVC free.
Many of our products, specifically our blinds, are made out of recycled aluminum.
We also offer washable products, which heightens the window coverings durability.
We carry natural and organic drapes with organic material like cotton, hemp, recycled fabric, bamboo, and more.
Future Goals
One of our primary goals as a company is to achieve several accreditations and certifications as a green environmentally friendly company. The ownership of our business is personally committed to recycling and "going green". It is a work in process; and we will always strive to improve our supply, products, and processes.
Presently we are members of the Organic Trade Association (OTA) and our expanding product line utilizing organic, natural, and recycled goods/supply. For example; our 100% organic cotton fabric is certified organic. This means we are supporting organic and sustainable agriculture too. To qualify as organic, in part, both the crops and soil must be free of all pesticides and toxins for a minimum of 3 consecutive years.
Many of our supplies and materials are regionally sourced. For example, some of our fabric, paper, cardboard, and other material come from the surrounding local area as well as California. As many of our products are regionally sourced, we are doing our part in reducing our carbon footprint via less distance traveled and natural resources used.
American Fabric Mills
Importantly, please note: we remain steadfast in our commitment to "Buy American". We are under direct contract with several American textile mills. As foreign importation of drape fabrics and textiles continues to grow, well established American mills have closed operations. Many of these mills were in business 100 plus years. Employing generations of employees. American Blinds & Draperies, Inc. purchases our fabrics domestically with remaining mills and sources.
